* About:

Vulnerability reconnaissance is a task completed by all good security professionals
in the course of daily activity. Searching web pages and information links to
determine the latest threats and risks to their domain. SchneeWeiB does this
on a daily basis and put in a request to have a tool that will allow him an easier
time and a more organized way to manage all of the links that one needs to visit
in the course of doing vulnerability reconnaissance. Thus the tool came into being.
VulRec Tool allows the user to manage their daily security related links and to
categorize them and search them based on those categories. SchneeWeiB will
periodically release his links file (which is quite extensive I might add) for
you to use in this tool.

The latest URL package (links file) can always be downloaded from:

http://www.SecurityUnit.com/vulrec/vulrec.ini

Or you can use the auto update functionality within the tool itself.

* Why:

The task of vulnerability reconnaissance is such a long and arduous task that I
attempted to find away to take some of the pain out of it.

* Installation Notes:

Unzip the package all to one directory and execute. The links file is the
vulrec.ini file and can be replaced with newer versions downloaded from this site.
There is an autodownload function built into the tool or you can manually download
the file from the link above and just replace the old one in the programs working
directory. (Do this with the program off for best results)

* Build Date:

Aug 29, 2002

* Build Version:

V3.0.1R

* TODO for next version:

Add an automerge functionality. Right now when you download the latest INI it
overwrites any changes that you might have made to the old ini file. Currently
you can use any program you like to merge them together as long as you use UNIX
line endings instead of DOS. (The editor Arachnaphobia can do this. I don't
support editing the INI file by hand. Use the built in Editor to do any editing
until I can release a merge function. Do not email me for INI support as I will
simply tell you to download the one off the web page). In the next version I
plan on having the tool itself give you the option of merging when downloading
the latest URL package.
